ListenSport on Cam FM

Ever wanted to be the voice of sport on the radio? That voice narrating the most exciting action across a multitude of different events? Or maybe that voice sharing their knowledge of their sport, giving the listener the bigger picture of all the goings on? Or even that person who makes it all happen behind the scenes? Whatever you want to have a go at, Cam FM will give you the platform to do it on.

At Cam FM we’re excited about our sports coverage. From the ever-popular Bumps broadcasts, listened to not only in Cambridge but across the world, to our Varsity commentaries live from venues such as Twickenham and Lord’s, we play a big role in reporting on Cambridge sport. That said, we’re not only interested in rowing and rugby. Last year’s coverage of the inaugural Varsity Horse Race at Newmarket and the American Football Varsity Match (which we even video-streamed) are examples of our interest in making our sports content as broad and expansive as we can.

Taking part in our sports broadcasts have proved to be memorable experiences. Former Head of Sport Beth Price looks back on the Newton Inaugural Women’s Boat Race on the Tideway. ‘‘We had the chance to be part of sporting history, working alongside international journalists and even getting Clare Balding herself to endorse us!’’ For current Head of Sport Juan Bradley, sprinting down the River Cam at the same time as commentating on this year’s May Bumps was a unique challenge!

If you think that we’re only looking for people with experience in sports broadcasting, think again. According to Beth Price, ‘’if you’re a presenter who’s interested in sport or an athlete interested in commentary there’s something you can get involved with. Some of our best commentators had never been on air before kick-off but knew the game inside out.’’
