Hello fellow Cam FMers,
What's all this then? Somehow I've been given control of the comms email, which means I get to slide into your inbox fortnightly (hopefully) with lots of exciting news and updates on the station. I'll try to keep it as interesting as possible, but if you have any feedback, constructive or otherwise, please drop me a line using comms@camfm.co.uk!
A bit about me... I'm a 2nd year natsci at Downing. I've not been at Cam FM very long (I've only been on air three times so far!), so we've probably not crossed paths yet. But hopefully that will change once I get around to scheduling some exciting socials! There's a little more on that later on. |

Collaborative Shows |
Cam FM's collaborative shows are back! They're a great way to get involved - especially if you don't think you can commit to doing a show every week during exam season. Each week a different presenter hosts a show around an overall shared theme:
Her Voice - Mondays 7pm Shows focused on the voices of women and non-binary people
Time to Talk - Sundays 7pm
Shows focused on mental health and wellbeing

May Bumps |
Arguably the best event of the year! Its the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sun and take part in a quintessentially Cambridge event through commentary. Whether you have lots of experience or have never commentated in your life, feel free to sign up and take part!
There is also a cardboard boat race taking place on Sunday (18th) for those who are interested in commentating on that; drop Lauren (lh786@cam.ac.uk) an email if you are!

Yes, yes I realise it was quite bold to open an email to hundreds of people with a big photo of me. As I've already alluded to, I'm quite new here. So new that I actually didn't receive any of the previous newsletters. But, that's technically a good thing yanno. Clean slate and all that.

This week we very sadly lost the Queen of Rock, Tina Turner. Tina Turner was known for hits such as The Best, What’s Love Got To Do With It and Proud Mary, and sold over 180 million albums and won 12 Grammy Awards. Unless you've been living under a rock, generative AI has taken off over the last six months. And powering that AI boom, has been GPUs, particularly those manufactered by Nvidia. And so when it came to releasing their earnings for the last quarter, they were looking particularly juicy. In response, NVDA stock jumped 26% and has put them on track achieving a $1tn market cap.

This weekend is the final matchday of the premier league for the 2022-23 season. Despite Arsenal maintaining 1st position for 248 days or 93% of this season, after losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest last weekend it was confirmed that Manchester City would in fact be this season's champions. At the other end of the table lie Southampton, my home team, who are confirmed to be relegated into the Championship. Objectively, this was a long time coming, but it still stings a little bit.
